Updates

Today I read on another bulletin board this anonymous post:

"i know phil has stated his personal reasons and all, but to just up and quit right before the most important part of the season is terrible. i hope he does one of two things:

1- finishes up this season, at least through congess avenue mile. the he can announce he's quitting.

2- give someone else the email and website name so that texastrack is still a site to view all of the information.

if he does anything less than these his name will forever be mud in the eyes of texas track athletes and fans. i hope he does the right thing."

Wow, ten years of doing this website for everyone else and my name is forever mud now.

Another person wrote, "hes too soft skinned to be in this world." He's probably right, but does that say something about me or about this world? I always thought trying to be a good person is something to be proud of, but I'm beginning to think that the only way to get by in this world is to be a jerk. It seems to work well for so many.

1 - Phil,
I have been a visitor to your site for at least the last 8 years. When I have been in a position to provide meet info for you I have. I understand the hard work you put into this site and the lack of appreciation that you get for your hard efforts. I for one will surely miss the site if you decide to stop updating it, but I also completely understand your reasons why and don't blame you if you do. Thank you for all the work you have done to promote track and field in Texas. Good luck to you in the future.
Sincerely,
Trey Rose (Comment this)

2 - Phil,
Thanks for the years of free service to the track community. I have read and kept up with all of the meet info each year. Great to have it all in one place. Sorry to hear that this is happening. People can take and take and take without so much as a thank you. Hope that all the negative e-mail stops. You do a really great service for all, for free. Too bad the few, I hope it is a few, spoiled it for you. There are several of us who do appreciate what you do greatly. Congratulations on your future marriage, I pray God blesses you and you fiancee.
Sincerely,
B. Simpson

3 - Morons Phil and selfish. I thought about asking for the website so I could post them. But I would in no way do as good of a job as you. I am trying to see my girls run and throw and have the life that you will one day have when your kids get older. People are just too selfish and self centered. Again thanks for all your years of service to us and Texas Track. You really see how it is when you are gone huh Phil. Its good to see who your real friends are. You name is not mud. far from it. You are with Larry and Judy Story, pioneers who helped a lot of people for a lot of years. Remember what Winston Churchill said

"“NEVER WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEW”
Prime Minister Winston Churchill, 1940

yes that is true
Thanks Phil (Comment this)

4 - Phil, I want to thank you for at least posting up the district results. I am a senior this year so I really relied on your website in crosscountry and now to keep me informed on what was happening with other mile and 2-milers in my region. I have read in the past that you were having problems keeping this site running like you are now. I stayed out of it hoping that all will get better. Well it did for a while, then i figured you might have been doing the same thing these past 2 weeks and needed a break. I found the information I needed from other sources, and I can see how hard it is to post meets when the you have to go searching for the information yourself instead of the meet directors providing he results directly to you. So for all the hard work I just want to say thanks, and if you can finish off the season that would be great, if not, well life goes on, and so does track, so I'll do my best, and when it comes time to face the competition I'll race them like we are equal. No times, no fancy equipment, just a pair of legs running to see who can go faster. Thanks again Phil. Good Luck (Comment this)

5 - So nice of people to tell you what the right thing to do is isnt it. I know people have really gotten used to being able to using your site as have I, but I echo the sentiments of those who are glad for you that you are trying to do what you feel is in the best interest of your family. Being nice doesnt make you weak but you definately can stand up for yourself and do what you want without being a jerk. There will only be a handful of people who think ill of you no matter what and they really dont understand what it is all about. Let em start their own website. I wouldnt give up the site unless you are comfortable with it and compensated for it. Money doesnt seem to be the issue for you even though you have mentioned it, but I think you should get something out of it if that is what you decide. Best of luck. Im not in coaching anymore for some of the same reasons you are struggling with this. I appreciate all the hard work you put in on the site and I pray that your family situation will be a happy and positive one.

6 - Thank you for all of the hard work that you have shared with Texas track fans over the years. Hobbies will come and go, as your life priorities change. You will not obtain your rewards from the world for being a good person in this life.

I wish you well. (Comment this)

7 - Phil, Again you comment on the negative letters. Please, please don't let a few people make decisions for you. You are a better person and are above these kind of people. Whatever you decide, you have helped and been an influence on so many, so many times. Its like they say about teachers and coaches, "Once you have taught or coached (or had texastrack.com), you have touched a life forever". Ten years, so many athletes could not wait for your results. They will never forget you. THANKS,and God bless ya'll. (Comment this)

That's what you're doing right now, being a jerk. (Comment this)

9 - Phil,
God Bless and congratulations to you and your future wife! What you have done to texas track over the years is AWESOME! You are the bible of the State for what all us coaches/athletes need each and every year. If there was anyway that I could help you I would, just say the word! I'd be more than happy to help out! Keep up the good work, although most don't appreciate it as much as they should. Believe me, all that you do IS appreciated by many that never comment on here! Don't pay attention to the ones that run you down.
