Christmas in Peru

Early Morning in Lima
It´s 4 am here and I´m going on fumes right ow, but at least I´m in Peru. The flight down was long, but nice. I enjoyed visiting with the guy across the aisle who had grown up down here and was visiting for the first time in six years. We got in on time and I went to Miraflores and prowled around the own for awhile. I even ran into girl working at a restaurant I´d met on my last trip. We viasited for awhile while I got something to drink.
With only a few hours to kill, there simply wasn´t time to get any sleep before heading to the airport (where I am now). I watched some American TV shows and headed back here.
One fun thing was realizing I was answering questions in Spanish that were asked in English! Even more interesting was giving firections in Spanish to the taxi-driver who didn´t speak English. It makes me feel like I{m pretty well able to get around here now.
In about 2 hours my flight leaves for Iquitos where itll be hot and humid even at 8 am, but at least there´s a comfortable bed waiting for me when I get there for a few hours´ sleep before heading out.
As always, the Peruvian people have been incredibly friendly to this gringo visiting their country.

Preparing for Another Trip South
It's Thursday night and I've got a long trip ahead of me tomorrow. I'll travel a long ways back to Peru. This time, however, I don't think I'll spend the night in the airport -- instead opting for a short night's rest in a cheap hotel. It may cost a little extra, but at least I'll get a couple of hours' sleep before arriving in Iquitos Saturday morning.
I'll continue to try to write some reports on my trip (hopefully daily) and maybe even post some photos along the way. I think I've figured out how to do that as long as I can connect my camera to a computer down there. (That shouldn't be a problem.)
I've already had quite a few friends in Peru email to say they're looking forward to me coming down again for Christmas. Despite the incredibly hot and humid weather, it is a great place to relax.

Orlando, Florida
It's been a long time since I've written anything here. I need to get used to writing more often, but I'm so busy and, frankly, I'm not so sure that I have anything meaningful to say that often-- unlike the many folks who post their opinions several times a day on blogs and especially bulleting boards with nothing useful to say. (I believe that talking just to hear yourself is either an exercise of great egotism or of a simple mind that is too ignorant to know the relative unimportance of their voice.)
